These Terms of Service govern your use of TaxFort's platform and services. By accessing or using our services, you agree to be bound by these terms.
8. Data Storage & Security
8.1 Data Storage
All documents you upload to TaxFort are stored on Backblaze B2 object storage with AES-256 encryption at rest. All data in transit is protected by TLS 1.3. We use JuiceFS as the distributed file system layer to provide fast, secure access via S3-compatible gateway and rclone mounts.
8.2 Retention Policy
We retain your documents for a minimum of 10 years from the date of upload (or longer if required by applicable law). This meets or exceeds IRS Publication 583, AICPA, and typical CPA firm record retention requirements.
8.3 Immutability of Final Documents
Documents you mark as “Final” (including filed tax returns, signed engagement letters, IRS transcripts, official workpapers, and any other documents you designate as final) are automatically stored in Compliance-mode Object Lock.
Once locked, these files are permanently non-rewritable and non-erasable for the entire 10-year retention period. Neither you, your clients, accounting firms, nor TaxFort can modify, overwrite, or delete these files.
8.4 Versioning
Source documents (such as W-2s, 1099s, bank statements, receipts, and drafts) remain fully editable. When you upload a new version, the previous version is automatically retained in the version history.
8.5 AI Organization
New uploads are initially placed in a secure Inbox and automatically processed by our AI classification system. The AI sorts, renames, and moves documents into year- and category-based folders.
8.6 Data Isolation
Each taxpayer has a dedicated, isolated directory. Accounting firms and other authorized users receive strictly limited IAM access keys that only permit access to the specific clients they are invited to.
8.7 Your Responsibility
You are solely responsible for correctly marking documents as “Final” when required and for ensuring that all uploads comply with applicable laws. We are not responsible for any loss, alteration, or deletion of documents that occurs before they are marked as Final and locked.
Data processed in Secure Enclaves. Privacy is our gold standard. Your data is not used for model training. All processing occurs in isolated, encrypted environments.
